Faceless YouTube Documentaries with Claude Code
Big faceless channels never show a camera. Their videos are motion graphics: maps, charts, timelines and simple characters. Studios spend a lot on animators to make them.
With Claude Code and Remotion (a free tool that turns React code into video), you can make the same kind of video from one topic. Claude writes the script, then builds each scene as code. Because everything is code, changing it is one sentence: say "make the chart red" and every scene that uses that chart updates. When it's done, Remotion renders the MP4 on your own computer, ready to upload.
The reel itself was made this way: no camera, no animator. You need a Claude plan with Claude Code and Node.js installed. Remotion is free for individuals.
Prompts & steps
- Install Claude Code and Node.js, then open a terminal in an empty folder
- Ask Claude Code: create a Remotion video project for a 10-minute YouTube explainer (it runs npx create-video@latest for you)
- Give it one topic, e.g. "what if the internet shut down for a day?", and ask for a script split into scenes
- Ask it to build every scene in code: maps, charts, timelines and characters. Preview with npx remotion studio
- Add a voice: your own recording, or an AI narrator (ElevenLabs or a free local TTS), plus background music
- Change anything in one line, like "make the chart red" or "slow down scene 4"
- Render the MP4 with npx remotion render and upload it to YouTube
